On December 3, 2025, a delegation from the School of Advanced Manufacturing at Nanchang University visited the Jiujiang Robotics Town in Jiangxi Province for a specialized research and industry-academia-research collaboration exchange. The delegation was led by Chen Jia, Party Committee Secretary of the School; Professor Ai Fanrong, Executive Dean; and Professor Xiong Pengwen, Vice Dean, Director of the Nanchang University Robotics Research Institute, and Director (at the departmental level) of the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics. The visit aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of the development of robotics and related industries in Jiujiang and to promote the deep integration of technological achievements from the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics with local industries.

That afternoon, the delegation visited Jiangxi Youdi Technology Co., Ltd. and Jiujiang Youbixing Technology Co., Ltd. They inspected the companies’ production workshops, technology R&D centers, and product exhibition areas, and listened to introductions from company representatives on technological innovation, product development, and market applications.

Subsequently, the delegation held a thematic symposium in the meeting room on the sixth floor of the Poyang Lake Ecological Science and Technology City Management Committee. The meeting was chaired by Jiang Fengwen, Deputy Director of the Management Committee. Huang Xiong, Party Leadership Group Member and Deputy Director of the Jiujiang Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, along with other relevant municipal and county department heads, attended the meeting. Representatives from six entities—Jiujiang Youbixing Technology Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Youdi Technology Co., Ltd., Jiujiang Ruyang Precision Technology Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., the Jiujiang Branch of the 707th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, and the Jiujiang Digital Economy Industry Research Institute—participated and delivered speeches.

At the symposium, Xiong Pengwen introduced the construction progress, research directions, and representative achievements of the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics. Representatives from enterprises and research institutes reported on their innovative practices and development plans in fields such as robotics, intelligent manufacturing, ship engineering, and the digital economy.

During the subsequent exchange session, he further highlighted potential collaboration directions with the participating parties by drawing on the laboratory's recent breakthroughs in areas such as welding robots, medical robots, and service robots. For example, joint R&D could be carried out with enterprises like Youbixing and Youdi Technology on navigation and intelligent upgrades for commercial robots; robot solutions for precision assembly and inspection could be provided to high-end manufacturers such as Ruyang Precision and Xinjiangzhou Shipbuilding; collaborative innovation on special-purpose robots and autonomous systems could be explored with the Jiujiang Branch of the 707th Research Institute; and the construction of a big data platform for intelligent manufacturing could be jointly advanced with the Digital Economy Industry Research Institute. These specific suggestions provided clear technical pathways for future cooperation. Representatives from the enterprises and research institutes showed strong interest in the proposed collaboration directions, fostering a lively atmosphere for discussion.

During the exchange, Ai Fanrong proposed a vision for deepening university-local cooperation. This base aims to serve as a comprehensive platform integrating technology R&D, achievement transformation, talent cultivation, and project incubation, directly addressing local industrial needs and helping Jiujiang build a regionally influential robotics industry innovation hub. This proposal received high approval and positive responses from the local leaders present. Jiang Fengwen, Deputy Director of the Poyang Lake Ecological Science and Technology City Management Committee, also stated that the Ecological Science and Technology City would provide high-quality physical space and supporting services, welcoming Nanchang University to bring cutting-edge technologies and high-level talent to Jiujiang to jointly write a new chapter in industry-education integration.

In his concluding remarks, Chen Jia expressed that Nanchang University highly values industry-academia-research collaboration with Jiujiang City. He hoped that this research visit would serve as an opportunity to further bridge university-enterprise cooperation channels, promote the synergistic development of technological innovation and industrial upgrading, and inject new momentum into the high-quality development of Jiangxi’s robotics industry.

This research activity not only strengthened communication and mutual understanding between the university and the local government but also laid a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in the future. Both sides unanimously agreed to further strengthen collaboration, jointly promote the agglomeration and development of robotics and related industries in Jiujiang, and support the transformation and upgrading of the regional economy.
