Research Directions

The research focuses on welding processes and equipments, additive manufacturing, advanced material design/preparation, and fiber optic sensing. Specifically including:

  1. Interface design, welding metallurgy, and microstructure-property control in dissimilar material joining, along with related processes and equipment. This includes but is not limited to laser welding, electron beam welding, vacuum brazing, and more; advanced soldering materials, brazing materials preparation, and processes optimization; as well as wetting and spreading for the aforementioned processes.

2. Additive manufacturing technology based on welding heat sources, including process optimization for powder bed fusion, powder feeding, and arc additive manufacturing, as well as material design and preparation.

3. Fiber optic sensing and smart structures, including but not limited to sensing technologies such as FBG, LPFG, and macro-bend fibers.
