Research Interests

Dr. Liqiang Gong’s research focuses on high-performance materials design, surface strengthening, and service failure mechanisms for advanced applications in aerospace, energy and chemical engineering, mining and metallurgy, marine equipment, and advanced manufacturing. His main research interests include:

1. Ni-based superalloys and high-temperature protective materials;

2. High-performance wear- and corrosion-resistant Fe-based alloys, corrosion-resistant steels, and heat-resistant steels;

3. Surface engineering and additively manufactured functional coatings;

4. Processing and property regulation of advanced ceramic materials;

5. Service behavior characterization and multiscale mechanism calculations of materials.

Major Achievements

Dr. Liqiang Gong was selected for the CAST Young Talents Support Program, Ph.D. Track in 2024, awarded Outstanding Graduate of Beijing in 2025, supported by the China Scholarship Council in 2024, and selected for a China–Europe Joint Doctoral Training Program in 2022. Over the past five years, Dr. Liqiang Gong has published more than 10 papers as an independent first author in international journals such as Materials Characterization, Journal of Materials Research and Technology, Intermetallics, and Journal of Materials Science, including one highly cited paper. Dr. Liqiang Gong also serves as a Youth Editorial Board Member of Corrosion Communications, AI & Materials, and other related journals. Dr. Liqiang Gong has led or participated in two industry-funded projects commissioned by wholly owned subsidiaries of Midea Group, with total funding exceeding CNY 1 million.
