I. Historical Development

The Material Forming and Control Engineering program at Nanchang University originated from the Forging and Pressing discipline established in 1958 at Jiangxi Institute of Technology. After more than 60 years of continuous development, the program has grown into a highly recognized discipline and has been awarded multiple honors, including:

· National Featured Undergraduate Program

· National First-Class Undergraduate Program (Program Construction Site)

· One of the First Pilot Programs of the Ministry of Education’s “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program”

· Accepted Program for International Engineering Education Accreditation

· Jiangxi Provincial Brand Program and Jiangxi Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program

Major milestones include:

· 1958: Enrollment of the Forging and Pressing discipline

· 1993: Authorized to confer Jiangxi Province’s first Ph.D. degree in Materials Processing Engineering

· 1999: Establishment of the Material Forming and Control Engineering program

· 2000: Establishment of Jiangxi Province’s first Postdoctoral Research Station in Materials Science and Engineering

· 2007: Approval of the jointly-funded (central & local) laboratory: Advanced Forming and Die & Mold Laboratory

· 2008: Recognized as a National Featured Undergraduate Program

· 2009: Materials Processing Engineering approved as a National Key Cultivation Discipline

· 2010: Approved as one of the first pilot programs under the Ministry of Education’s Excellent Engineer Program

· 2018: The first-level discipline Materials Science and Engineering selected as a National “Double First-Class” Discipline

· 2020: Awarded the National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site

· 2020: Engineering Education Accreditation application accepted

II. Faculty and Staff

The program is supported by a strong faculty team led by Academician Jilan Pan, featuring outstanding mid-career and young scholars with solid teaching and research capabilities. The program currently has 23 full-time faculty members and one provincial-level teaching team, including:

· 19 faculty members with senior professional titles (82.6%)

· 19 faculty members holding Ph.D. degrees (82.6%)

· 15 faculty members with overseas visiting experience (65.2%)

· 18 faculty members with engineering practice experience (78.3%)

The faculty team includes:

· 3 recipients of the State Council Special Allowance
