The Instrument Science and Technology degree program (Program Code: 080400) at Nanchang University originated from the Measurement & Control Technology and Instruments undergraduate major established in 2002. In 2006, the university was authorized to grant master's degrees in Precision Instrument and Machinery, and in Measuring, Testing Technologies and Instruments. Adhering to the "Four Orientations", this program is dedicated to cultivating academic master's students with interdisciplinary expertise in precision instruments and meters, testing and metrology, sensing and control, intelligent instruments, medical instruments, IoT, and intelligent manufacturing. The aim is to develop outstanding talents who are well-rounded morally, intellectually, and physically, and are suited to engage in scientific research, technological development, engineering applications, teaching, and management in fields related to instrument science and technology.

Students in this discipline are expected to possess a rigorous, truth-seeking, and innovative scientific attitude, strong academic ethics, and a professional dedication. They should acquire solid foundational knowledge and systematic expertise in the field of instrument science, along with advanced technical methods and modern technological means to address challenges in instrument science and technology. Demonstrates innovation and the capacity to independently carry out engineering or management responsibilities. Fluent in English for reading technical literature and writing research papers, with competent listening, speaking, and writing abilities.

This degree program maintains stable research directions, primarily including: Precision Instrument Technology and Engineering, Detection Technology and Intelligent Instruments, and Advanced Medical Devices and Equipment. It boasts a team of supervisors with excellent academic diversity. Currently, there are 28 supervisors, including 15 professors and 11 associate professors; among them are 3 second-level professors, 10 doctoral supervisors, and 25 holders of doctoral degrees. Research platforms include the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robots, and the Jiangxi Nanchang University Modern Medical Device Industry Technology Innovation Institute.

In recent years, the program has successfully completed 8 national major basic research projects key research and development projects, over 20 national-level projects such as those from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level research projects, and over 30 industry collaboration projects. Research funding has increased year by year, with an average annual research expenditure exceeding 10 million RMB. A number of landmark achievements have been accomplished, including 1 Second Prize of the National Technology Invention Award, 2 First Prizes and 3 Second Prizes of the Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 Second Prizes of the Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science Award, 3 Second Prizes of the Jiangxi Provincial Higher Education Institutions Science and Technology Achievement Award.

The scale and quality of postgraduate training in this degree program have significantly improved, producing a large number of high-caliber talents. Graduates have all secured positions in enterprises, public institutions, and government departments, receiving high praise from employers.
