Introduction

Relying on Nanchang University's national "Double First-Class" discipline "Materials Science and Engineering", Jiangxi Province's first-class discipline cluster "New Materials Innovation and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Manufacturing", and the Rare Earth Light Alloy Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Rare Earths, the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Light Alloy Materials was successfully reorganized through the restructuring of Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratories in the material field in 2024. It integrates the former Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Lightweight and High-Strength Structural Materials, Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of High-Performance Precision Forming, and Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Modern Analytical Science.

Research Directions

As a key direction of national strategic new materials, the laboratory meets the urgent demand for green manufacturing in the implementation of Jiangxi Province's manufacturing industry "1269" Action Plan and is of great significance for achieving the "dual carbon goals":

Centering on national strategic needs and the modernization of Jiangxi's manufacturing industry, the laboratory will focus on serving key industrial chains such as aerospace and automobile, research and develop new light alloy materials, new processes and new products, practice the concept of green and low-carbon development in the manufacturing industry, and strive to build a "world-class light alloy material laboratory with Jiangxi characteristics and Chinese features".

Talent Team

The laboratory has a high-level scientific research team of more than 40 members, including 13 professors/senior engineers, 10 associate professors/senior engineers, 38 researchers with doctoral degrees, 8 recipients of provincial and ministerial-level talent programs, and 8 part-time technical experts from enterprises.

Core members of the team have profound scientific research and engineering experience in the field of light alloy materials. Many of them hold academic positions in the Chinese Society of Rare Earths, the Chinese Materials Research Society, the Jiangxi Nonferrous Metals Society, etc., and have established extensive and stable cooperative relations with well-known universities, scientific research institutes and leading enterprises in the industry at home and abroad.

Scientific Research and Platform Construction

The laboratory is equipped with advanced scientific research facilities, covering a total area of 4,080 square meters, with the original value of scientific instruments and equipment exceeding 55.86 million yuan. The main equipment includes: transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer, vacuum melting rapid solidification equipment, high-temperature and high-vacuum contact angle measuring instrument, multi-functional friction and wear testing machine, etc.

Upgraded and integrated based on four provincial-level platforms including the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Lightweight and High-Strength Structural Materials, Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of High-Performance Precision Forming, Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Modern Analytical Science, and Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Manufacturing Informatization, the laboratory has complete capabilities in the design, preparation, forming, testing and analysis of light alloy materials. Since its establishment, the laboratory has achieved a series of important scientific research results: undertaking 38 national-level scientific research projects, 22 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and carrying out horizontal cooperation with 29 enterprises; winning 1 first-class award of Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and 5 other provincial-level scientific and technological awards; obtaining more than 60 authorized invention patents; publishing more than 160 SCI papers, including more than 20 highly cited papers; undertaking 3 enterprise-oriented "Listed and Selected" projects in Jiangxi Province, and promoting the transformation and application of a number of achievements.
