Overview

Founded in 1993, the Institute of Mechatronics at Nanchang University was personally initiated and established by Academician Pan Jiluan, the first president of Nanchang University. It has developed by integrating the relevant scientific research forces of the former Jiangxi University and Jiangxi University of Technology, relying on the university's advantageous resources in the engineering field. For a long time, the institute has been based on national strategies and regional development needs, focusing on the R&D and innovation of core key technologies in the field of mechatronic engineering equipment, and adhering to the equal emphasis on scientific research and application, forming a well-structured, dynamic and high-level research team. After nearly 30 years of development, the institute has achieved remarkable results in technological innovation, high-level talent training, achievement transformation and social services, making positive contributions to Jiangxi Province's industrial upgrading, the high-quality development of the equipment manufacturing industry, and the technological progress in relevant national fields.

Research Directions

Closely following the strategic orientation of the country's "Four Orientations", the institute actively aligns with Jiangxi Province's "1269" Action Plan and the development needs of the industrial chain, focusing on the following characteristic research directions:

  • Mechatronic-Hydraulic Transmission and Basic Components: Conduct research on high-performance hydraulic/pneumatic components, intelligent fluid transmission systems, sealing and tribology, vibration and noise control, etc., to assist in the localization of core components of high-end equipment.

  • Intelligent Diagnosis & Treatment and Biomanufacturing: Integrate mechanical, electronic, biological and biomedical engineering to develop intelligent medical equipment, minimally invasive surgical robots, biological 3D printing, and rehabilitation engineering technologies and equipment.

  • Intelligent Manufacturing Robot Technology: Devote to the research and application of key technologies such as industrial robots, special robots, human-robot collaboration, intelligent perception and control, digital twins, and flexible manufacturing systems.

  • High-Performance Aerospace Equipment: Address the special needs of the aerospace field, carry out the R&D of lightweight structures, precision drives, special processing, testing technologies and equipment.

Talent Team

The institute has a scientific research team with a high academic level, strong innovation ability and optimal age structure. There are 24 core members, among whom 100% of the fixed researchers have doctoral degrees. The team includes 6 professors/senior engineers, 10 associate professors/senior engineers, 15 young backbones under 40 years old, 1 recipient of national-level talent programs, and 4 recipients of provincial and ministerial-level talent programs.

The team has interdisciplinary backgrounds covering mechanical engineering, control science, biomedical engineering and other fields, and possesses comprehensive capabilities to undertake major scientific research tasks and collaborative industry-university-research research.

Scientific Research and Platform Construction

The institute has complete scientific research conditions, with approximately 1,000 square meters of dedicated experimental and office space, equipped with a number of advanced research facilities and instruments. Among them, there are more than 20 sets of precision instruments with a unit price of over 200,000 yuan, with a total equipment value exceeding 30 million yuan, including high-precision motion control platforms, multi-dimensional force sensor testing systems, micro-nano processing and observation equipment, hydraulic comprehensive test benches, biological 3D printers, robot performance testing platforms, etc.

Relying on these hardware supports, the institute has built a number of characteristic laboratories and scientific research platforms, actively participated in the construction of provincial-level scientific research bases such as Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratories and Engineering Technology Research Centers, and co-established joint laboratories or technology centers with many leading enterprises inside and outside the province, forming a sound innovation chain of "basic research - technological development - engineering application". In recent years, the institute has undertaken a number of National Natural Science Foundation projects, key R&D program projects, and major industry-university-research cooperation projects with enterprises, achieved a series of influential scientific research results in fields such as high-end equipment, intelligent manufacturing, and intelligent medical care, and won a number of provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological awards.
