Introduction

Founded in February 2002 by Academician Pan Jiluan (then President of Nanchang University) and Professor Zhang Hua, the Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics relies on the Robotics Institute of Nanchang University. It covers disciplines including Mechanical Engineering, Instrument Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology, and serves as the Chairman Unit of the Jiangxi Provincial Robotics Society. Optimized and reorganized by the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology in July 2024, it is the only provincial key laboratory in the field of robotics in Jiangxi Province.

Research Directions

Centering on the goal of "improving the manufacturing environment and enhancing the quality of life", the laboratory organically integrates and advances the three core technologies of "mechanism + perception + intelligence", conducting research on industrial robots, medical robots, collaborative robots, and service robots. The research directions include:

  1. Robot Mechanism, Sensing and Perception

  2. Robot Control and Embodied Intelligence

  3. Multi-Robot Collaboration

  4. Welding Automation

Talent Team

The laboratory has 45 full-time researchers. Academician Wang Yaonan serves as the Director of the Academic Committee, Professor Zhang Hua as the Honorary Director, and Professor Xiong Pengwen as the Laboratory Director. The "Robot Manufacturing Technology" Science and Technology Innovation Team has been awarded one of the first batch of Jiangxi Provincial Advantageous Science and Technology Innovation Teams.

Scientific Research and Platform Construction

Since its establishment, the laboratory has successively undertaken more than 100 projects, including 3 national key R&D program projects, 3 National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China ("863 Program"), 1 National Major Basic Research Program of China (preliminary stage of "973 Program"), 58 National Natural Science Foundation projects, Jiangxi Provincial Key R&D Program projects, Jiangxi Provincial Major Science and Technology Special Projects, and enterprise cooperation projects. It has published more than 500 high-level academic papers in top journals and conferences in the field of robotics, such as IEEE Transactions, Science China: Technological Sciences, Science China: Information Sciences, Acta Automatica Sinica, Robot, ICRA, and IROS. It has obtained 2 authorized US invention patents and more than 100 Chinese invention patents, and won 1 first-class award of Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 second-class awards of Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science Award, 2 second-class awards of Jiangxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, and Jiangxi Provincial Youth Science and Technology Award, etc. The laboratory actively organizes and participates in academic activities in the field of robotics at home and abroad, and has hosted large-scale academic conferences in Nanchang such as the 2024 Intelligent Robot Collaborative Innovation Academic Forum and the 4th China Haptic Technology and Application Conference 2025.
